About Network Traceroute

What is Traceroute?

Traceroute is a network diagnostic tool that shows the path packets take from your computer to a destination host. It displays each router (hop) along the route, along with response times, helping identify network bottlenecks and connectivity issues.

How It Works

Traceroute sends packets with increasing Time-To-Live (TTL) values. Each router along the path decrements the TTL. When TTL reaches zero, the router sends back an ICMP "time exceeded" message, revealing its identity and response time.
